Necktie Angels
made by CLT Volunteer, Sandra Preau
Instructions
1) Thrift some colorful retro ties from Clothes Less Traveled (They are only $1)! Also, pick up some small bulb ornaments and ribbon (we have those too)!
2) Starting from the wide end, measure out a foot (30.5 cm) of the tie. Cut off the excess. We will use some of this later so don’t throw it away!
3) Pull the seam along the back of the tie apart to get to the interfacing. Cut off an inch (2.5 cm) of the interfacing.
4) Fold the corners of the cut edge of the tie towards the seam line and hot glue them down.
5) Fold the top of that cut edge over (like the top of an envelope) and glue down the edge. Do not glue the entire flap down flat.
6) Thread a string through that flap you just created. Tie the string in a knot at the top of the tie.
7) Hot glue one bulb ornament on this top knot for the angel’s head.
8) Take the part of the tie we cut off earlier and tie it in a knot. Glue that knot to the front of the tie for the angels crossed hands. Glue the ends to the back of the tie and cut off the excess.
9) Take your ribbon and make a large bow for the angel’s wings. Glue the wings to the back of the tie.
10) Decorate your angel with more ribbon or use a pipe-cleaner to make a halo. Get creative!
11) Add an ornament hook (or make one from wire) and glue it to the top of the tie.
12) Hang up your new angel, take a picture, and share it online so everyone can see your artistic work! (Remember to tag CLT so we can see it too!)
