Busy, busy, busy...
4/18/11 It's always non-stop around the shop as most of our friends know. However, there
is a lot that goes on away from the shop, behind the scenes, to help keep things
ticking. We make charity site visits, have meetings, work on websites, and do
all the things you'd expect from a well-run non-profit thrift shop.
On Wednesdays we have trucks that go out and pick up items that are too large to
tote to the store in the owner's vehicle. We pick up quality furniture and large
items if the owner requests a pick-up prior to Wednesday. We don't charge, but
we do ask that only large items or loads that are of suitable re-sell quality be
scheduled for pick up. If you ever have any doubt about whether an item is
something we could re-sell, please give us a call at 770-486-8517.
(We don't sell washers and dryers and other large appliances. ) For more
specifics on the things we sell and details on scheduling a pickup,

Yard sale season is one of our busier times of the year. Saturdays many load up
the remains from their yard sales and bring them over to the store as a
donation. We love our yard sale friends --- it's so generous to gift those nice
items to us that for some reason no one bought. Your donation of clothing and
more allows us to raise the money that we give back to the community.
Saturday (4/16) we partnered with Whitewater for their annual community yard
sale. It was a blast! Lots of residents cleaned out their houses and garages for
the yard sale. When it ended, they packed up everything that didn't sell and
brought it to the club house where we had parked a large truck. Board members
and volunteers helped unload their vehicles, gave them a tax receipt and then
loaded it into the truck.
We were there from noon to 4-ish. At times cars and trucks were lined up waiting
to unload! We had some larger items that couldn't fit in the owner's vehicle so
they'll be scheduling a pickup for this Wednesday, or maybe the next. Everyone
was extremely nice, and very generous.
Four high schoolers, Diana, Tyler, Chris and Matt, volunteered to help. We love
it when Beta Club members and Scouts help out to earn badges or get in their
community service hours. (Side note: Click here for information on our
scholarships. We know every penny helps when you're getting ready to send your
child off to college.)
Oh, lets see, what else can I tell you about the Whitewater yard sale? Ah, yes -
the loot! You wouldn't believe all the nice items that were tucked into the
truck. Today as I type volunteers are sorting through the items and putting them
out on shelves at CLT just for you, our favorite shopper.
Are you a reader? We have boxes and boxes of books to sell now. Ditto on toys
and children's items. One family donated a beautiful wood crib. Backpacks,
suitcases, sports bags and more.
We received tables, chairs, cushions, computers printers, fax machines, a TV or
two and office items.
Lots of beautiful artwork passed by me on the way to the truck. Framed pictures,
figurines, collectibles, kitchenware... and some things I couldn't quite figure
out. Mystery items!
Given the large amount of stuff we brought over from Whitewater I would imagine
it'll take a few days to sort. We put things out continually so the store can
undergo a complete transformation of stock almost hour to hour! I know I'm
heading over tomorrow to see if some of the things that I wanted are out there
still.
